Rough times guys, I'm still not able to get my server to use a MySQL server on a different box, and FastCGI seemed to be causing a lot of errors so I turned it off. I'm also working on getting on 64-bit linux app working, but I've got two tests this week so I can't promise anything before this coming weekend. Sorry everyone! Also, I'm thinking about distributing the source code for the application so that people can modify it.

Sorry Everyone, I'm having somewhat severe DB issues so the server will be spotty until I manager to setup a seperate PC to host my DB on. Plus I need to go grocery shopping and do laundry :). Please be patient! Thanks.

I've uploaded the (hopefully) fully operational linux and OSX apps - thanks again to Crunch3r and Augustine for the help with building these apps!

I've been having some mysql issues lately. I think the server is a bit overloaded, so I'm going to be working on skimming it down a bit and maybe putting it on a different computer. So if the server is down, don't panic :), it shouldn't be down for long. Also, Crunch3r has volunteered to help me get an OSX version running, and I should be able to recompile the linux app tomorrow, so look forward to that. Thanks!

The Logo vote will end next week Sunday, September 28th at noon Central Standard Time. If you haven't already, please take a few seconds and check out the awesome entries!

I'm starting to try to compile the application for linux, so hopefully I can get a version of that out by the end of next weekend. I'm also looking for help compiling a Mac version, so if you have some spare time and some spare knowledge, let me know in the forums. Thanks!

I believe I sorted out all the problems with the new validator and the old work generator. I also got a new router, which is functioning beautifully, so I can finally put some energy towards linux, OSX, and Windows x64 apps. So keep a look out for those. Also, if you have not voted for our new logo, please do so in the forums! Cori and Rebirther really pulled out the stops with their submissions. Let's let them know how much we appreciate it! Thanks!

My new validator and work generator are causing problems, so the server will be sporadic in the coming days. I'll be getting a new router tonight, so hopefully that will solve those problems :). Thanks for crunching!

We handed out the 1 millionth credit today! Congrats Crunchers!

Sorry everyone, for some reason my main router has been dropping my connection sporatically until I manually unplug it for 5ish seconds. That's why the server has been kind of spotty. Sorry! Hopefully I can figure out what the problem is soon. Thanks.

August 19, 2008
I believe I fixed the issues with the work generator, so the server should be good to go for awhile. I also realized that building a 64-bit windows version of the application was trivial, so we got one of those now! Hope you dig it.

August 18, 2008
I noticed that my work generator was failing for some reason, so the server may be a litle sketchy until I figure it out. Sorry!

I've been notified by some users that in order to get WUs, you must detach and then reattach. This is because I am using a new code signing key (keeps people from hijacking the server and distributing malicious code). So if you are having problems getting WUs, this is why. Other than that this day has been going very smoothly! I'm working on the description of the application, and a page that will show how close we are to a new lower bound. Thanks everyone!

After updating the server software last night, I forgot to check the web site, so that's why it looked funny for a few hours :).

I'm ready to start the server so hopefully everything will go at least somewhat smoothly. I'm also planning on typing up a semi-detailed description of what my software does, so if anyone is interested please watch for that within the coming days. Thanks for crunching!

P.S. After that I'll be working on the mail server again.

Sorry about the long downtime, I got caught in between a move and a vacation with no time to get the server back up, but I'm back now, and I'm ready to release the alpha this weekend. I'm going to retest it tonight and tomorrow just to make sure, then release it Saturday. Should be exciting! Thanks for sticking with the project!

I've been trying to get the email functionality of BOINC (the server software) working, but so far, to no avail. Hopefully I can do so before our release date late this month. On the brighter side, I've got a slightly buggy client-side app running on my development server, and a slightly buggy work generator generating work for it. So If all goes well I'll be alpha testing it on my school's computer's before the end of next week. Finally, I will moving sometime within the next few weeks so the website will be down for at least a day. Hopefully this inconveniences no one. Thanks!

I realized that I had forgotten to add some cron jobs and that's why the user of the day and the forums were hardly ever getting updated. It should be fixed now. On a more depressing note, I accidently fried my old hard drive with all my recent work on it. While this shouldn't change the start date of the project it has made me much busier! I am in the process of rewriting the client app I had running a week ago, and also researching the possiblity of getting the information off the fried drive. If anyone has any experience in the area, please let me know on the forums or email me at nickelbob@yahoo.com. Thanks!

From 8-4:30 Central Time today, I will be turning the server back on so that people can get rid of the workunits still in their queues from the unsuccessful test last week. I also have had a little time to try to debug the brute force app, although I'm still having problems, so the hiatus is still on! Sorry! Also -- how is the font size for everyone? Too small? Let me know in the forums. Thanks!

July 5, 2008
The problem people were having with the application most likely has to do with the use of a certain library and the fact that I wrote the app using the .NET framework which some people do not have. This may result in the project being put on haitus until late August when the true algorithm is ready. I simply do not have the time to rewrite the brute force program, so unless I can figure out an easy way to compile my C# code (maybe Mono?) in a way that will work for everyone the project will have to wait until late august. I appreciate everyone's positive response to the project so far, and I can't wait until we go public. Cheers.

Over the past few weeks I've been through the most difficult BOINC install ever, but I believe I'm finally nearing the end. For some reason the workunits that worked find on the private server are causing errors and memory leaks... not good. I should be able to iron out these issues this week and get the alpha running by next week. Thank you all for being so patient and thanks to those who have signed up already, and sorry for the delay.

It has been decided that in the interests of creating a solid userbase for this project, we will release an alpha version of our application within the next few weeks. The application is a simple brute force R(5,5) finder, and has been running on a private server for the last 3 months. This will help get the project some name recognition so that by August we will have generated some interest and, hopefully, users to help us break in the algorithm currently under development.

June 14, 2008
As you can see, I suceeded in getting the preliminary server and website up and running. The testing phase continues, and we are still on track for a August 2008 release.
